My cat lost a patch of hair, what could it be?

It seems as though my cat suddenly lost this patch of hair on his back. Its about 1x2" and perfectly clean. There is one little red bump, but it's only at one end of the patch. The rest of the skin is very clean and not infected or anything. What could this be? He is an indoor cat and didn't fight anything.

It could be ringworm. Cats are notorious for carrying ringworm and spreading it. I think the little red bump indicates some sort of infection.

it probally has ticks that you dont know of

Sure sounds like ringworm - check your cat all over carefully and see if there are any crusty / scabby spots that the fur hasn't fallen off yet. (Especially on the tail and near the ears)... Also, if you have a blacklight handy you can use that to look for ringworm spots (they glow white).

Anyway, if you have the slightest reason to suspect that it IS ringworm, get kitty to a vet right away, the treatment is simple and not very expensive.

This could be an allergy, the results of an insect bite, a scrape from crawling into an area that he just didn't fit into. Keep an eye on the area. Hair should begin growing back soon. Make sure you know the size of the bald spot so that if he should continue losing hair you will recognize it sooner. Also, watch for other patches forming. If this occurs, take him to the vat asap. If the red bump gets larger or increases in size, take him to the vet. Other symptoms that he needs medical attention are lack of appetite, refusing to drink water, lethargy, irritability that is unusual... etc. If he shows these problems, take him to the vet. If nothing else occurs, he should be ok.

I would go to your vet just to make sure he doesn't have any sort of parasite (mange) or ringworm, etc., but it could also be that he scraped himself on something. I have a cat who always like running under the bed, and he scraped his back once, just pulling a big chunk of fur clean from the skin. So thats a possibility, but I would get it checked just to make sure!

ive seen this on my cat before. my cat had fleas and was biting at them. he had pulled out some of his fur. maybe your cat has fleas.

My cat lost a patch of hair, what could it be?

It could be ringworm. The vet holds an ultra-violet light over it and if it glows, it is ringworm. Good luck.

My cat lost a patch of hair, what could it be?

Could he be pulling out his hair? My neurotic cat does that. Just grabs and pulls. He needs prozaxc! The vet has attributed it to anxiety - he's simply a nut job. I find hair all over the house in clumps from his constant pulling. He's a mess!

My cat lost a patch of hair, what could it be?

It could be a parasite (either burrowed under the skin, or an allergic reaction to a bite from one), or a wound. The single red bump and the specific patch of hair loss, however, makes me think there may be some type of burrowing parasite... They can unfortunately, get into our homes and attack indoor pets.

Your best course of action would be to take your cat to a vet for an examination. A licensed veterinarian can help you to find the cause of the problem, and prescribe medication that will get rid of the parasite, fungus (ringworm- as was suggested by others- which is contagious to humans), etc. and that will help relieve any pain or irritation that he must be feeling from this. Your vet can also help with a plan to prevent it from reoccurring once he has found the cause.

Often times hair loss can be a sign of another problem. You should probably go to the veterinarian, to make sure the cat isn't sick. Also, the bump may be a sign of a rash or skin problem, which should also be checked out.

Well my cat lost two patches of hair and it was nothing she was just playing or got caught they are very curious creatures!! Don't worry unless it gets really obvious something is wrong. Like sores or something.

My cat lost a patch of hair, what could it be?

it might be that ur cat has allergies to something u have in ur house my cats lost a patch of hair twice as big and the vet said "it was allergic to the food we were giving her so try giving ur cat a different brand of cat food and if that dosent help try watching over ur cat to see if it loses any more hair if so its allergic to something in ur house" so you can try any one of these

Yes, I would take your cat to the vet too just to make sure that it isn't ring worm. But it could be stress too. My cat has lost some hair on her back because she gets stressed out by the other cats. It comes and goes though.

first of all don't touch it with your bare fingers. if you have, wash them with lots of soap. Could maybe be ringworm - do you see a small raised circular shape? go see the vet, please
