Why my jack russel lose so much hair?

I was told by my veterinarian that certain brands of food can cause excessive shedding. The one he mentioned in particular was Ol'Roy - the Walmart brand. He recommended Iams and those other expensive foods as well as Gravy Train and Kibbles and Bits. It guess some of the other lack nutrients dogs need to have healthy coats.

Your dog is just shedding but if he is shedding to the point where you can see his skin and a rash, then we have a problem. Go to the vet if this occurs.

it is probably just shedding, considering that winter is over, but also, feeding dogs foods with carbohydrates can cause their skin to itch, so they will scratch more and shed more hair. It is best to avoid giving dogs table scraps, and stick to dog food from the store. Also, like the previous post, if you see patches of skin more than an inch across or medium to severe rashes then check the vet, especially if you don't feed him/her table scraps.
