What I've heard about this is that it doesn't cause hair loss, but if you are already having hair loss, it will definitely speed up the process. It is entirely hereditary. It is a result of higher testrone (and other androgens) in the blood stream. (If you notice a lot of bald guys have hair everywhere else). As one of the guys whose hair is thinning now, I can tell you the reason for the hat has to avoid sunbuns. (Sunscreen and hair don't mix!), and a lot of guys are embarassed about it. I just went with it and got a crew cut so the thinning is less obvious.
